4 months with Hubspot & The Honeymoon Is Over

Inbound Marketing Central FloridaFour months ago I was stuck and needed to make an important decision. Do I keep my head down and work really hard and hope that my agency grows or do I invest in myself, work smarter and take a chance with this whole “Hubspot” thing.  Well, I took the risk.  I am four months into my search for more leads and it's safe to say, the honeymoon is over.

So what’s changed? 

Well, everything! What’s great is that Hubspot is way more than just software for reporting, researching and automating. They offer a process. By diving in and becoming saturated with the inbound process I’ve seen growth in every area of my agency and myself. 

Clear Goals & A Focused Approach Makes a Difference.

It’s so easy to get wrapped up in delivering for clients that marketing your own agency gets pushed to the back of the line.  Earlier this year I was so “busy” running the day to operations of my digital marketing agency that I had stopped marketing myself. I wanted to grow, wanted to generate more business for my agency, there just wasn't enough time. 

In order for the inbound method to work you have to have clear and defined goals that are attached to real numbers. Understand and creating SMART goals allowed me to not only focus on my agency, but also better organize and structure the current SEO campaigns I had been running. 

Your focus determines your trajectory. I used to just cast a line and hoped someone took the bait. I wasn’t very clear on who I wanted to do business with. By creating buyer personas I’ve been able to better target the “right” clients and invest in a strategy to attract them. I now focus on my personas and the best ways to lead them through the buyer's journey.  

Continually improving myself must be a priority

You can learn something from anyone. By taking on the posture of a student and allowing my previous process to be challenged I’ve seen new growth in a number of areas. But this isn’t just a one-time thing. The inbound methodology challenges you to always improve. I am never “satisfied” with last month’s growth. I now use all the data to challenge me and grow me for the next month.

Hubspot creates a culture where learning is a priority and growing yourself is just as important as growing your agency. I have had the pleasure of being challenged by Catie and Jordan (My CC and CAM) each month. Having someone with a different perspective who can speak into you and your process is powerful. Each conversation pushes me to out do what I’ve done before.

Why you do something is just as important as what and how you are doing something

Wake up, eat breakfast, market, eat lunch, send emails, eat dinner, sleep, repeat. This is the reality for many of us. We just do our job the best we can, collect our payments and hope people are satisfied. But it doesn’t have to be this way. Embracing the inbound method has shifted my focus from selling a good solution to delighting my clients. I always believed that what I was providing as a digital marketer was a good solution and what I delivered always produced results. What was lacking was the why. Why do I do what I do? Hubspot is helping me answer this question. I do what I do because I want to see others succeed and grow their businesses. My focus is now on adding value to people all along the buyer’s journey with the end goal of delighting them into promoters. Less about me, more about others!

Because Shelley Media Arts is a smaller agency the investment to partner with Hubspot was a big one. It was a risk and honestly, I was pretty nervous it wasn’t going to work out. But I believe this pressure actually helped push me harder to learn and fully implement the inbound marketing process. After 4 months the honeymoon is over but the relationship is great. This year we have already matched lasted years revenue and look to grow by more that 100%. Not a bad ROI if you ask me.
