When you think of the term “manager” what comes to mind? For me it is the 16 year old who was “in-charge” of me for the month I had the pleasure of working at a retail store in the mall while trying you get my agency off the ground. Unfortunately the term manager has gotten a bad rap over the years and so has what it represents. When it comes to your internet marketing efforts you need to do more than manage, you need to advance.
Tweet: “When it is obvious that the goals cannot be reached, don't adjust the goals, adjust the action steps.” Confucius.
We need to stop managing our internet marketing efforts and need to start looking for ways to advance and grow our efforts. This is especially true if we want to reach our over all goals. So what sets a managed inbound campaign apart from one that is advancing?
Speaking of setting goals, that’s a great place to start. Setting SMART goals will help to define clear objectives for your campaign. SMART stands for specific, measurable, attainable, relevant and time bound. Having a clear destination is essential in driving your campaign forward instead of maintaining it.
In order to know whether or not the actions you are taking are working, you have to analyze the data. Effective inbound marketing is all about tracking your efforts and adjusting as needed. The data will let you know what is working and what isn’t so that you can focus on the areas that are advancing you towards your goals.
There is big difference between managing an account and advancing your campaign. As an inbound marketer my main objective is to help my clients meet their goals. The only way you can meet your goals is if you push forward, analyze, adjust and take risks. Whether you’re an inbound marketer or a business owner looking to grow your business online, do manage advance!
